A-00.5 Operating principle

Form follows function.
Then keeps going.

A great digital product isn't one virtue — it's the overlap of three. Form makes it desirable, flow makes it usable, function makes it work. Hold all three at once and you land in the small space in the middle.

01
Form How it looks & feels
Craft, type, restraint. The aesthetic that earns trust at a glance.
02
Flow How it moves
Interaction, motion, state. The journey that feels effortless.
03
Function What it does
Logic, performance, reliability. The engineering that holds it up.

A-01 Who am I

Path to product engineering

Growing up, I was the kind of kid who loved gadgets, comics, and games. That early curiosity naturally evolved into a passion for the intersection of design and technology. I studied architecture, where I developed an appreciation for the balance between aesthetics and structure. I’ve always been fascinated by the tension — and harmony — between the beauty of art and the precision of engineering.

Great products, in my view, sit right at that crossroads. I thrive in full-stack teams, especially when we’re bringing an idea to life from scratch. Whether it’s diving deep into user and business needs, whiteboarding a technical design, wireframing solutions, or building interfaces and sharing them with stakeholders — I enjoy being hands-on at every stage. I’m not tied to a single role; I’ll do whatever it takes to ship a great product.

Outside of work, I live in the beautiful city of Amsterdam with my family. We get around by bike as much as we can. If there’s even a sliver of sunshine, you’ll probably spot me outside, drawing confused glances from passersby. My ideal weekend starts with coffee and a croissant from the local bakery, followed by a museum visit or a walk through the park — roses and all.

A-04 Praise

What people say

Kind words from colleagues and clients I've had the pleasure of working with.

“One of those rare engineers who is as comfortable in a design critique as in a code review. Tjin brings craft and clarity to everything he ships, and lifts the whole team's standard while doing it.”

A-06 Beyond the code

Interests

The best things in life require patience, attention to detail, and a willingness to get lost in the process.

01

Photography

Always chasing the perfect light and composition. There's something meditative about framing a moment — it teaches you to see the world differently, to notice details others might miss.

02

Cycling

Long distances, whether exploring the Dutch countryside or tackling urban routes. Amsterdam runs on two wheels, and so do I.

03

Vinyl records

When I need to decompress, I lose myself in vinyl — there's nothing quite like the warmth of analog sound. A reminder that the best things require patience and attention to detail.

04

Architecture & drawing

My first discipline, and a lasting lens. I still sketch, and I see software the way I see buildings — structure you can feel, details that reward a second look.
